This is my work in The Link Gallery at Manchester Met Uni. The red tape on cones belongs to another student. The theme of the exhibition was ‘ Colour Block The Link’, so my pieces were just chosen for the visuals and not the narrative.
PIPE LOVE
Pipe Love is my newest project, I’ve been playing with air vent hoses to create sculptures based on the notion of infertility, the pipes have been chosen because of the hollow interiors. The pipe below represents a deflated fallopian tube, torn and poorly stitched latex washing up gloves were used by way of communicating domestic issues, latex has sexual connotations. This piece will be remade and mounted on a wall.
I choose my materials primarily based on the functional and non functional values of the object or fabric, these tend to have connections to the body or home and I use them to create a visual language. The materials used often dictate my work for me.
