This is my Behance portfolio, I will be updating it shortly. x
Underlay was used to reference the things that cannot be seen, infertility was the subject of this piece. The figure takes on the form of both female and male, domestic materials are disrupted to show deterioration in reproduction and sexuality. This piece developed from my ‘Rubber Head Girls’ paper collages, latex glove fingertips were cut off to speak of restrictions, deterioration of the household paint is used to reference the deterioration of the reproductive system particularly surrounding the menopause.
Last day of uni and after 5 years in art education I have come to the conclusion that I’d love to write either a child’s book or a childishly adult book, so I will begin by character building. My degree show exhibition ‘Human Pollution’ (although quite explicit in context) made me realise that I just can’t step away from the child inside me.
Some of the characters I design will probably still fluctuate between the adult/child criteria but these can be redeveloped at a later stage, these characters may also be potential sculptures.
First Steps….. lots of doodling, drawing, writing, storyboards, plots and to actually learn the art of illustration.
I’ve said it now so I best get started !!!!
Found some really useful websites below.
Year Created: | 2012 |
Medium: | Wall on Wheels, Leatherette, Air Vent Hoses (Pollution Pipes), Leather Jacket, Shoes, Wood, Stuffing, Lingerie. |
Description: | The work presents itself to be childlike in appearance, this speaks of naivety, the context of the work surrounds unwelcome happenings such as sexual disease and domestic violence. The punch bag is lay as if defeated and the boxing gloves are stitched up to say that they have given up the fight. Polluted Being (figure standing) speaks about the naivety of the transmission of sexual disease with the use of the pollution pipes around the penis area and the tongue is mimicking in a childlike manner but is also used to discuss communication or in this case the lack of communication. |
